Is this something worth writing about? It’s been on the mainstream media dartboard for quite some time, and I honestly thought that England wouldn’t let him go. But it seems as though Prince Harry will go to Iraq after all. There’s much debate whether or not Harry should even go. On one side there are the families of soldiers who say that if it’s too dangerous for Prince Harry, why is it alright for my son or daughter to go?
And then there’s the security aspect of it all. Does having Harry in the combat zone have the commanders in a tight spot? After all, you would expect them to have a beefed up force around the Prince. What if Harry gets kidnapped? What if he gets killed?
I certainly am not in a position to say what Harry should do, but I think it is brave of this young man to pursue this personal ideal for himself. He may one day be the king, and if only to inspire his countrymen, I think he definitely should go. Does he deserve an unequal amount of security when he goes to Iraq? Maybe. But if they do it right, the enemy shouldn’t know where he is, and Harry, in the end should be treated like any other soldier in combat.

1I think if its good enough for the citizens to go to war, I think it should be alright for even the prince to go. Remember that going to war is not about privilege, it’s about doing it for your country, and clearly Harry is doing this because he feels the need to.

2Joanne,
I certainly favor your viewpoint. But, my girlfriend tells me that I’m in the wrong side on this one. She argues that of course, Harry shouldn’t go. Not that he shouldn’t per se, but it will be a burden on the forces that Harry is assigned to.
Like it or not, Harry will definitely be a large target, and losing him will be even a bigger lift to the enemy than a regular soldier in the front lines.
I see both sides of the argument, but I still have to stick to the fact that in the end, it’s still Harry’s choice, and in this case, he chooses to go to Iraq.
