You know, as I watch that speech by Bono, over and over again. I am inspired by his words. By his conviction that we can do it. Yes. You and me, Them and We, from sea to sea.

It’s a matter of humanity and whether or not we are able to speak up when we know that so many others cannot. When the poor are getting poorer, we must be the champion that says, enough is enough. When we see another infomercial, begging us to buy their product, there is a small boy in Africa begging us for his life.

You ask yourself, what can I do? And I say to you, there is a lot that we all can do. We can start helping our neighbors, and helping our families here in our own homeland. We can start pressuring our congressmen and our senators. We can write to our president, and to all other leaders. Urging them, and telling them, that we care, and we will no longer sit idly by, while the world passes by, and the deaths of millions will be all that we have accomplished.

This is not a cry for help from some unknown creature. This is another human being. Whether that human being is a mother dying from AIDS, or a family struggling with no food to eat, or a child that has lost his family from the ravages of war… these are our own brothers and sisters. We are of only one family, and that is of mankind.

Individually we may be able to help a few, but collectively we will change the world…

We can be the generation to really start looking to make a difference. We can be the generation to start inspiring others to join in this fight. We are indeed fighting the good fight. Wherever you are. Whatever you are doing. Start simply by donating your time to worthy causes, donating your time to worthy organizations, and writing to your leaders, that you are ready and that you want them to take action. This is not an option. This is what is demanded of us, as human beings.

We can be the generation that ended extreme poverty, cured AIDS, cured cancer. We can be the generation that bridged the gaps between all cultures. American, Italian, Israeli, Palestinian, Iraqi, Iranian, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, African, Asian, Mexican, European… We have one thing in common. We just want a place to raise our family and live a prosperous life. I think when we look at other cultures, we have a tendency to see the differences, but look closely and you soon realize we have so much more in common.

I say to you. We can be the generation to achieve all this and more. To be the generation that looked at what we all had in common and used this as a bridge to start building a world where differences were embraced… and loved…
