I’m almost sad that I didn’t get to see this on the big screen. I didn’t even know about the existence of this movie until recently. A friend of mine asked me whether or not I saw it. I’m a big fan of the Lord of The Ring’s series, and movies like these always pique my interest. I’m not a die hard by any means, but fantasy style of movies always seem to capture the imagination.

Here’s the Summary,

Jade Warrior is an epic love story about battle between good and evil. It combines fantasy and kung fu and takes its inspiration in Finnish folk lore compilation known as The Kalevala. The film connects Finnish and Chinese mythology. The events take place in two different times and places: in modern Finland and in ancient China.

Jade Warrior is an imaginative, visually impressive motion picture, which was completed by creating special effects never before witnessed in Finnish cinema. The effects include skillful fighting scenes, breathtakingly beautiful scenery as well as magnificent crowd scenes.

And from Variety,

The unlikely melding of Finnish and Chinese mythology largely works a treat in “Jade Warrior,” a cross-cultural martial-arts epic that makes a virtue of its twin settings and, even more importantly, is steered by a Finn director, Antti-Jussi Annila, who really knows his Sino chops. Romantic-realistic fantasy, about a modern-day blacksmith who finds himself reincarnated as a lovelorn warrior in ancient China, has already sold widely and performed well in the handful of markets it opened in last fall.
