This wonderful song by Rex Smith, is rarely ever talked about. Obscure, I’m not so sure. But I’m a fan of great songs, and this is just one of the most beautiful songs ever. Simply Jessie is a love song, beautiful rhythm, and simple lyrics. It’s a song near and dear to my heart.
Below you will find the lyrics to the song, as well as the a cute homemade video. I don’t know anyone in the video, but this was the only video I could find on Youtube that was actually worth showing here. Anyway, I hope everyone likes the song. For those who aren’t aware of this song, I hope you especially fall in love with it!
(video and lyrics after the jump)
And I don’t know how I knew it
But I knew it somehow
You’re the answer to the question
No one’s answered till now
And I don’t know what you see
What you see in me
Girl it’s nothing to what I see in you
Stars that glisten
Lips for kissin’
Honey listen it’s true
No one ever loved you better
I love ya honey
And I’ve known a girl or two
But none of them was you
And they could never be what you are to me
Stars that glisten
Lips for kissin’
Honey listen it’s true
No one ever loved you better
I love ya honey I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you

2This is a lovely, simple, catchy tune, an I’m glad you mentioned it. It’s been looping endlessly through my head since I’ve watched Sooner or Later about a dozen or two times in the last month on DVD. It was written by Bruce Hart and (Steve?) Lawrence and sung by Rex Smith.
His less-trained voice on those earlier albums is a keeper. It’s the breathiness that brought women to their knees.
I can’t see any YouTube link unfortunately.

3Karos,
Welcome to our little space here in the blogosphere. Thank you for your comment, and you’re always welcome anytime!
You are so right, the voice is serenade-perfect in a sense. I love this song and I’m happy that you like it as well, we have something in common.

4Karos just emailed me and asked..
Well, I’m Filipino, and when ever I go to the Philippines on vacation, this is one of the songs many of the guitarists play. And I don’t blame them either, it’s truly beautiful.
