Whenever I say to someone I know that happiness is a choice, I usually get a little rolling of the eyes. You see, sometimes people just don’t want to be happy. Sometimes, they would rather feel angry, sad, or some other emotion other than happiness.
When you lose someone you love, of course the appropriate response would be a feeling of emptiness, loss, sadness, and an overwhelming sense of grief. This is alright, and should happen. Because if you don’t feel these things then you are not being honest with yourself.
But realize that emotions of sadness, anger, hate, etc. should never be a lasting emotion. Because at the end of the day, you need to feel a sense of balance in your life, and an overwhelming sense of happiness. This happiness is a choice.
On a personal basis, my own happiness lies with the relationship with my family, the talks with my niece, the chat with my girlfriend, and the calls I make to my parents. Everything else is secondary. I always try to focus on how I can make the world better, and how I can start that change with myself, by always improving.
Happiness is a way station between too little and too much. — Channing Pollock (1880 - 1946)
Happiness is a present attitude… not a future condition. — Hugh Prather
Happiness is the only good.
The time to be happy is now.
The place to be happy is here.
The way to be happy is to make others so. — Robert G. Ingersoll (1833 - 1899)
