It’s another day in our Holy Week series of blog posts. Today in particular is one of those days that stand out in The Christian Calendar, because this is the day that Jesus Christ suffered through “The Passion” and was Crucified.

In The Philippines, there’s a sense of solemnity, quiet, peace, sadness, seriousness, and even darkness. Not a lot of laughing, but a lot of individuals observing penance. Some will be fasting and not eating, some will spend the whole day in prayer, some will participate in the activities, and some will do all of these things.

The whole entire Philippines is usually at a stand still except for the religious activities that go on. The television stations usually sign off, as do the radio stations, businesses will be out, noise is usually kept at a minimum, the church is closed, all crucifixes in the churches are usually draped over, and basically a focus on solemn prayer or peace is encouraged.

Of course, not all television channels are closed, those who do stay on usually will have religious specials air, and the seven last words, the way of the cross, and the crucifixion is usually televised.
