Being a practicing Catholic, I will be writing a lot about The Holy Week which culminates on Easter Sunday. This week-long-celebration, for many Catholics, will start today on Palm Sunday, which commemorates the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem the days before “The Passion”.

Palm Sunday is not on a specific date on the calendar, but is the Sunday before Easter.

I’m often asked, as a non-Christian, how is Holy Week important to other people? I usually say, well, there’s the modernization of Easter, in which you have The Easter Bunny. But if you want a life lesson, you can just look at Jesus Christ himself, and realize the life that we should all try to emulate. Characteristics such as selflessness, love, frugality, compassion, and calm are some of the many traits that we can all try to live by.

By the way, I wanted to give everyone a heads up on where our focus for this specific Holy Week will be on. We will try to focus our writing on The Philippines. Those of you who are not familiar as to why we would cover The Philippines during Holy Week, need only realize the fact that The Philippines is the only predominantly Catholic nation in the whole of Asia. To have that distinction begs a question as to why. The short answer would be the bringing of the Catholic faith by Spain, thus you will often see many Philippine customs that are very much related to Spanish Culture.

So, now you know, and I hope you come by often as we will have some in-depth articles regarding The Holy Week and how it is celebrated in The Philippines.
