Detroit Tigers Opening Day 2007

The past days and in the days to come, baseball fans will be glued to the television, flocking sports bars, and going to the ballpark. Because it’s opening day for many baseball teams around the country in The United States.

And here, in Michigan, a state in the Midwest, baseball is seeing a renaissance of sort, because of its beloved Detroit Tigers who made it to the World Series last year.

After years of having sub-par baseball seasons, The Tigers brought in a no nonsense coach by the name of Jim Leyland. He took control, took responsibility, made everyone accountable, and made everyone believe. With this attitude, they were able to make the playoffs, win against the Yankees in the first round, beat the Oakland Athletics, and go to the World Series. They fell short, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals, but despite that, it was still even more than anyone expected at the beginning of last season.

I’ll be headed towards the downtown area later on, I won’t go to the game, but just around the in the sports bar with a few friends. I won’t stay long ’cause there’s a lot of work still to do with Holy Week and all, but aside from the busy excuse, the money excuse is more convincing. I couldn’t believe what standing room only tickets were going for — a cool $200.00. Sadly no one from the Tiger’s organization gave me any freebies, not that they even knew that I was asking for them.

Anyway, hope every baseball fan is excited for the new season ahead! And before I forget… GO TIGERS!
