It started snowing again today. Here in the Midwest, it’s a normal occurrence and one usually never thinks twice about the falling snowflakes. I went to the back of the house, stood there, and looked up towards the sky… It’s pretty cold here in the single digits temperature-wise and one would never have known it just by looking at my wardrobe. In the haste of succumbing to a deep desire to go outside, I only had on a t-shirt and some trousers.
So, here’s a grown man, in his backyard, out in the cold, no coat, and looking up in the sky….
looking for what, I don’t know. Was I trying to summon God to come down… or was I just looking at the majesty of the falling snow with the beautiful dark and cloudy sky in the background?
But, there I stood, for what seemed to be an eternity, lost in time, looking for the heavens… waiting…
I came back in, and felt refreshed. I did nothing, just looked up. I was freezing, but I felt a surge of inspiration to write an everyday occurrence, that most would never think twice of.
It’s strange, but I’m told that I’m lucky. All the time, from Filipino friends in The Philippines, who have never experienced the wonder of a winter wonderland… I can’t say that they’re not missing anything, because as I looked up today… the everyday occurrence, the everyday mundane winter that so many dread, breathed life into this Midwestern man. And inspiration has found me once again.
